Pharmaceuticals improve the quality of life by preventing, alleviating and curing diseases. This is due in no small part to the innovative power of the research-based pharmaceutical manufacturers, which aids in advancing therapeutic progress and therefore primarily helps patients. At the same time, the health insurance premium payers benefit through the cost effects of efficient therapies with modern pharmaceuticals.

Research is the vital nerve of medical progress, and pharmaceutical research continues to face great challenges: Currently about two-thirds - approx. 20,000 - of all known diseases can not be treated in an adequate fashion. These include numerous widespread diseases such as cancer, rheumatism and Alzheimer's disease.
